Litters 2012

Gina's (Cappuccina of the biscuitbox) honeymoon in Louisiana  to our great joy has also become a great success: she met a beautiful American "Cowboy", the dark-sable male named Am. Ch. Earthstar`s Charlie Brown , and on 4th May,2012 the puppies were born: 4 sable males and 1 tricolour female. For details look here: F-Wurf.

Like Winston "Charlie" is at home with the Earth Star Collies (Breeder and owner Mrs. Mary Catoir, Louisiana).

Thank you, Mary, again, that you gave us Charlie for Gina !

Charlie`s Pedigree

We saw "Charlie" for the first time only virtually on the Internet, when he impressed us by his fantastic dark mahogany color. The below left image shows him on one of his successful shows in America with his breeder, Mrs. Mary Catoir ..... This image was the reason why we came in contact to his owner, - I fell in love with him  :-) !

Am Ch Earthstar Charlie Brown ("Charlie") born on 11/26/03, Size 61.5 cm; MDR +/+, CERF: normal eyed (genetic testing: CEA Carrier); PRA: Normal Optigen non-carrier, full complete, correct scissors bite

"Charlie" is a compactly built dog, with a strong back, beautiful chest and excellent bone strength. He is a great charmer and has already sired several successful offspring in the United States. Although he is no longer the youngest (he is 9 years old this year ready), he was able to convince us with his beautiful gait when walking, and his friendly nature!

When Queenie came in season in January 2012 and we expected Gina's heat in March, the decision was taken quickly to fly with two girls ... after the necessary arrangements could be made quickly. So we took off together with 8 paws towards Louisiana.

We had  a microscope in your hand luggage, which really surprised the airport security ... Mrs.Catoir has supported our "German thoroughness"  and she was very interested in our sperm examinations! With the boys everything was okay, and so there was nothing in the way to the wedding plans with our two girls  :-)

Gina did everything with self-confidence. We had 2 weeks time, so we were able to acclimate Gina there. We let her and  Queenie spend some time at Earthstar Collies during the day, the acclimation was perfect until our departure with Queenie. Her  food we  switched to Orijen and since Mrs. Catoir feeds some BARF-diet as well  it worked  very good with poultry.
There was only the question: WHEN would Gina come in heat? Already in mid-February was the email - "Gina is coming into season ..." Very well, and after a nice meeting with Charlie on a larger lawn we started to press the  paws ....

Gina`s and Charlie`s puppies were born on 4th May, 2012. They are 4 sable males and one female tricolour.

Now our plans have become concrete (;-)): Our Queenie (Sheranda's Indian Summer Queen) has taken a long honeymoon-trip to a beautiful tricolor male in the United States.

Full of anticipation we herewith announce her marriage to Earthstar's Master Jeweler (aka " Winston ").

Winston lives at Earthstar-Collies (Mrs. Mary Catoir, Covington/Louisiana).

We want to thank you, Mary, so much, that you gave us Winston for Queenie !

Winston`s Pedigree

Earthstar's Master Jeweler ("Winston"): born on August 1st, 2009, size 61 cm, MDR1 (normal / normal) + / +, CERF: normal eyed / genetic test CEA: Carrier, PRA Optigen normal / non-Carrier, full dentition and and correct scissors bite

Winston is an elegant tricolor male with an intense black colour and a beautiful tan. He has a beautiful topline, a clean-cut head and a good bone. We were able to enjoy his fantastic movement with a lot of shoulder room and enormous thrust from the hindquarters, watching him running on a leash or running free.Winston has a very friendly personality; he is a big cuddler and he behaves in a very social way with other dogs.

His parents are the sable male Earthstar's Ride M Cowboy (aka Duke, pointed) and the sable female Ch. Earthstar´s Little Hurricane (aka Tempest), both also owned by Mary Catoir.
Winston has started his "show career" and already has gained almost half of the necessary points for the American championship in just a few shows.

For Winston, the date with Queenie was the first mating; Queenie liked him very much .. :-), and they both had some nice days in spring-like temperatures ...... Both have done well, and  everything has worked out fine, so that on the 6th April Queenie gave birth to eight stylish Americans (in sable and tricolor) here at the Wall Street Collies! For details see here: E-Wurf.

Now a few words and thoughts about how we found Winston:
After we thankfully had the possibility to take US-imported males for Queenie's first two litters, we had to face the question: What's next ..? Anyone who deals with American Collies knows that a breeder here in Germany needs "fresh blood"  to avoid inbreeding. And so the plans for this litter began in the summer of 2010.

We investigated with high expectations: It should not be primarily a modern pure "show kennel", but we were rather looking for Collies of the "classic American" type.  The offspring should have proven temperaments and experience in real life as in sports or as a therapy dog. We put emphasis on health, longevity and possible resulting health tested values. We also needed a breeder who was really willing to talk with us about his lines and years of experience, and possibly gave us the possibility to do some further genetic tests. The dog in question should NOT be strongly inbred, so that we can continue here with the lowest possible coefficient of inbreeding ....
Well, it seemed to become a difficult project ....

In the summer of 2010 we started a long email and phone series, which led us to 14 days of vacation in the vicinity of Covington in the fall of 2010.  We used the time and visited Mrs.Catoir on many days.  Her unparalleled support encouraged us in our choice. We enjoyed several days in studying pedigrees, leafing through old photo albums and intensively spending time with her beautiful dogs. I ran with the animals intensively on the spacious lawns; we were able to take photos and films of movement at the hand and running free. All males were measured, teeth checked, tail and body touched, formations compared. We were able to see the friendly and open nature of the collies. Mrs. Catoir helped us whenever she could, yes, she even invited a friend of hers with two young dogs from her breeding to "review" just for us! Thank you!

The Earthstar Kennel exists now for nearly 40 years. Compared to the American standards it is a rather "small" kennel. Right now she has 5 younger and 5 older dogs, and she has a close relationship to each of them; many of her collies lived up to 13-15 years of age! On vast grounds, there are several large dog areas covered with grass; the big dog lawn measures more than 5000 m².  The dogs can spend most of their days at the fresh air.

The Earthstar dogs are eye-checked (CERF) and MDR tested. Some of the dogs are already American champions.  Unfortunately Mrs. Catoir is not breeding at the moment, so that we can not get a puppy from her.
The question was: do what?  If the prophet cannot come to the mountain ....

In the summer of 2011, we planned our next litter, but because of the "heat embargo" (dogs are not accepted for travelling by aircraft in the warm months in the southern United States), we were not able to fly to Louisiana. So we hoped for 2012 ....

Now, in the early spring of 2012, our plans took concrete shape again, but Queenie`s season: would it cross paths with our D-litter?
Finally everything worked out. The D-litter moved out on January 28th / 29th and we flew with Queenie on 30th January . Queenie was mated  on 1/31/2012, and now we are waiting if everything will work out fine.

Queenie is used to being in the flight box since a long time, it is often used by our dogs as a sleeping cabin. And because this is the most frequently asked question: The dog must remain in this box during the flight for 12-14 hours. This requires a good  training and thorough preparation. Sedatives during the flight are not necessary for our dogs. In addition to this  a dog in the spacious box has much more comfortable place to stretch out and sleep as masters and mistresses in Economy Class!
Queenie is a completely self-confident dog, which is by her very coolness suitable for such a trip.  The best confirmation for us was, that after we moved into the hotel Queenie went into the crate all alone just hours after landing, - "My home is my castle."

Queenie`s and Winston`s puppies were born on 6th April, 2012.
They are 2 sable males, 4 tricolour males and 2 tricolour females.

We want to thank Mary again for everything!
